The Best May Events in DC

It has been a long winter here in the District. April was a cold month, which has us even more excited for May. Warmer temperatures are on the horizon just in time for outdoor festivals, parades, and events. There are several May Events in DC, and we have compiled a list of our favorites. From Cinco de Mayo celebrations to the annual Memorial Day parade, there is a lot to be excited about!

79th Annual Flower Mart

Flower Mart is the perfect way to spend a spring day with family and friends. This two-day outdoor festival will have over 80 shopping booths, games and carnival rides for children, free entertainment, and plenty of delicious food. Flower Mart is a Passport DC affiliated event, celebrating the District’s international diplomatic community.

When: Friday, May 4th – Saturday, May 5th | 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM

Around The World Embassy Open House

Travel the world without leaving DC. Around the World Embassy Open House is a Passport DC event where over 40 embassies will open their doors to the public. Tour the embassies while experiencing the food, art, dance, music, and fashion of the different participating countries.

Running of the Chihuahuas

Celebrate Cinco de Mayo with cold beer, live music, and adorable dogs at Running of the Chihuahuas. Head to the District Pier Beer Garden for cold beers throughout the day, and live music after the race. There will be a costume contest for all dogs to participate in as well.

Funk Parade

Head to U Street for the 5th Annual Funk Parade, a one-day fair, parade, and music festival. The festival was created to celebrate Washington DC’s music and art scene and the Spirit of Funk. You can expect a festive day full of great music and fun.

Taco, Beer, Tequila Festival

What could be better than a Saturday full of tacos, beer, and tequila? Head to the Capitol Riverfront to enjoy DC’s best taquerias and taco trucks, craft beer from over 25 regional breweries, margarita bars, and live entertainment. There are two sessions and three ticket options to choose from. The event is exclusively 21+.

Bike To Work Day

Join thousands of people throughout the DC area in commuting to work by bike. Whether you ride alone, find a riding buddy, or join a convoy, Bike to Work Day is a great way to connect to your community. There will be over 100 pit stops throughout the DC, MD, and VA area supporting riders with food, drinks, entertainment, and more. National Memorial Day Parade

Salute our military and fallen heroes at the annual National Memorial Day Parade. The parade was created as a reminder of the true meaning of the holiday and is a way for us to honor our fallen heroes, those who have served, and those who still serve our country. The parade is broadcasted on live TV for those who are unable to attend.
