Some of the greatest holiday traditions are centered around the fireplace and mantle: Santa comes down the chimney, stories are told by a roaring fire and stockings are hung on the mantle. What does that mean, though, for the rest of us without fireplaces in our homes or apartments? Neither of us are lucky enough to have a roaring fire to cozy up to but that doesn’t stop us from decorating for the holidays fabulously! Here are some of our favorite inspirations for alternatives when hanging the stockings with care.
Stockings
Not having a mantle shouldn’t mean missing out on the tradition of hanging the stockings. Here are some even cooler ways to display them.
The antique ladder is the definition of shabby chic.
Bring the outdoors inside by hanging a branch.
We’re crushing hard on this chalkboard faux fireplace.
Personalize this one with monogrammed knobs.
There will be no confusing who a stocking belongs to when they’re hung from the bedpost.
Doors
There is one thing that all homes and apartments have: a door! Here are some alternatives to the traditional wreath to help keep things fresh this year.
A couple of simple ornaments let visitors know that holiday cheer awaits them.

Tree
Whether you live far from any tree farm, don’t have space for a big tree or you simply want to spare an evergreen this year, we are loving these alternatives.
Think less “tree ornament” and more “ornament tree”.
Cuddle up with a good book or two.
If you’re really short on space, take it to the windows with vintage doilies or paper snowflakes.
For those short on space or cash that still want that fresh pine scent.
There’s no need to chop a tree down when you have a perfectly good one growing in your living room.
