The Best of Colorado Springs

The Best of Colorado Springs

Colorado Springs, or as the locals call it “The Springs”, is one of the most picturesque cities in America. The beautiful Rocky Mountains provide residents and visitors with breathtaking views and offers a variety of outdoor activities. There are so many different things to experience in Colorado Springs that we wanted to highlight our favorites. Since we already know you’re going to want to move here, we’ve recommended a few places to call home.

What To Do

Garden of the Gods

The Garden of the Gods is a public park featuring remarkable red sandstone formations. Tour the park on your own (either by foot or bike), take a Jeep tour for $10 a person, or if you’re feeling really adventurous take a guided horseback tour via Academy Riding Stables. Some of the must see formations include the Balanced Rock, Three Graces, and Gateway Rock. The park stays open until 11 PM so we recommend staying late to watch the sunset over the mountains.

Explore Pikes Peak

If you’re in Colorado Springs and don’t visit the summit of Pikes Peak, aka “America’s Mountain”, you’re missing out. Whether you decide to hike the 12.5 mile Barr Trail, drive through winding roads, or take the Pikes Peak Cog Railway the jaw-dropping views from 14,114 ft will leave you breathless.

Cheyenne Mountain Zoo

The zoo is nestled into the side of Cheyenne Mountain and sits at 6,800 ft making it the only mountain zoo in the U.S. Cheyenne Mountain Zoo is home to over 750 animals and 30 endangered species! Hand-feeding giraffes, holding a Burmese python, and going on a Moonlight safari are just some of the things that make this zoo one of a kind.

Where To Dine

Colorado Springs has a wide variety of dining options ranging from fancy, upscale establishments to modern, fast-casual restaurants. The three we’ve highlights below are must try’s before you go anywhere else.

Breakfast

King Chef’s Diner is home of the “Tastiest Breakfast in Colorado”. This cozy, 13-seat classic Valentine diner has been serving locals and visitors since 1956 and has never lost its charm. “The Grump” and “The Thing” are two popular items, but our favorite is the classic breakfast burrito. 2 scrambled eggs, sausage, grilled onions, and hash browns with their world famous Colorado Green Chili sauce. Make sure you have cash on you as King Chef’s Diner is cash-only.

Lunch

Chef Brother Luck has worked at upscale restaurants around the country and has combined those flavors into his own place, Brother Luck Street Eats. Their motto is to serve “urban cuisine one bite at a time” and they conquer that with dishes such as the Tempura Jalapeno Poppers and the Chicken and Waffles. Chef Brother Luck changes the menu every few weeks to ensure using fresh ingredients from local sources.

Dinner

Mackenzie’s Chop House serves the finest steaks and freshest seafood around pairing them with over 40 different types of martinis. This casual, yet elegant atmosphere has been a local favorite for almost 20 years. For seafood lovers, try the Cioppino or the Seared Scallops but if you came for the steak you’ll be happy to know there are 8 different cuts to choose from. Insider’s Tip: On Monday’s get the 10 oz. Prime Rib dinner for only 16.95!

Happy Hour

The Hatch Cover is our favorite spot to enjoy Happy Hour in The Springs. As if $0.50 wings all day every day weren’t enough, every Monday thru Friday from 3-6 PM enjoy half off select appetizers and great drink specials. Draft beers and rail drinks are only $2.50 and a glass of the house wine is only $3.00. The best part is Happy Hour starts back up with those same great deals Tuesday-Thursday from 11:00 PM-close. Stop by on Sundays to enjoy great specials for the Broncos games!
